The successful candidate is expected to conduct independent research in the field and work with supervision and teaching at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. Administrative tasks as well as internal and external trust and leadership assignments may occur. The position also includes informing about research and development work. One-third of the working time is dedicated to clinical work as a specialist physician in the section for clinical chemistry and pharmacology within the operational area of Academic Laboratories.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for appointment as a professor, the candidate must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical proficiency (HF 4 chap 3 §). According to the Employment Ordinance for Uppsala University (AO), the general eligibility requirement for teachers is to possess the personal qualities necessary to perform the duties of the position well (AO § 5). Scientific proficiency must be demonstrated through independent research efforts and the candidate's qualifications must be of very high quality from an international perspective. Pedagogical proficiency must be demonstrated through extensive qualifications in education (see AO 22 §). Furthermore, the candidate must show well-documented proficiency in supervision at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. Eligibility for this position requires a medical degree and specialist competence in clinical chemistry.

Assessment Criteria

In the selection among eligible applicants, primary weight will be placed on scientific proficiency and subsequently on pedagogical proficiency. However, a balanced assessment will be made so that an applicant with a significant advantage in pedagogical proficiency may be ranked above an applicant with a certain advantage in scientific proficiency. Clinical proficiency is also significant for the position and will be weighted accordingly.

Particular emphasis will be placed on experience in Swedish or Scandinavian laboratory diagnostics. Furthermore, research experience in cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, mental health, infectious or inflammatory diseases will be weighted.

Assessment Criteria, Other Skills

Administrative skills and leadership ability are important for the position and will be weighted. The ability to collaborate with the surrounding community as well as to inform about research and development work will be considered.

Administrative skills are demonstrated, among other things, through the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively and appropriately for the purpose, as well as through the ability to set and adhere to deadlines.

Leadership ability is demonstrated through the ability to lead operations and personnel, make decisions, take responsibility, and motivate and provide others with the conditions necessary to effectively achieve common goals.

In a comprehensive assessment of the applicants' qualifications, parental leave, part-time work due to childcare, union duties, military service, or similar will be considered as work experience (94 § AO).

When the university is to hire new teachers, applicants will be selected based on a qualitative overall assessment of competence and skills, deemed to have the best conditions to carry out and develop the current tasks and contribute to a positive development of the operations (4 § AO).

The gender equality aspect will be applied in hiring if, after a qualitative assessment, it appears that two applicants of different genders have equivalent or nearly equivalent qualifications and if one gender is underrepresented (constituting less than 40% within the relevant position category and at the relevant workplace) (95 § AO).

All qualifications must be documented so that both quality and extent can be assessed.

In the assessment of submitted applications, international experts may be consulted. In this event, application documents written in Swedish may need to be sent to a translator engaged by the university.
